21. How To Choose the Right Toys for Children

10/23/2020

Do you know how to pick the right toys for your children? Why do your children still want the one even after they have dozens at home?  Do you know that some toys can grow alongside with your little ones? Today we are going to talk about how to choose the right toys for your children.

Children are explorers who learn through practice. The process of play gives children an excellent opportunity to develop and practice new skills according to their unique interests. What your children play has a very important influence on their growth. Suitable toys can help children grow, challenge them reasonably, and cultivate their thinking, physical, language, emotional, and social abilities.

Look for toys that will grow with your child. Almost all the parents have the experience that after buying a toy home, your child may play with it a few days and never touch it again. There are some toys that keep your children’s play fresh at all early ages, for example, artificial animals made of plastic. Younger children may protect the animals by using shoeboxes for their nests while older ones can make these animals the protagonists in their stories. In addition, plush toys, dolls, trains, and trucks are all good examples.

Choose toys that encourage children to explore and solve problems. Games give children opportunities to practice and reinforce new skills. Toys can give children opportunities to figure out certain things on their own, cultivate their logical thinking skills, and help them become persistent problem-solvers. Such toys can also help children develop spatial relations skills, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills. These toys include puzzles, shape sorters, blocks, clay, paint, crayons, and play-dough.

Choose toys that can be used in a variety of ways. Children love to take apart a toy and put it back together, or pull out, add on, and then build up. Choosing open-ended toys can allow your child to play a variety of games. For example, wooden blocks can become roads, zoos, bridges, or spaceships. These toys stimulate children's imagination and helps them exercise problem-solving and logical thinking skills.

Use safe household necessities as tools for your children to play, for examples, pillows as climbing and stacking tools, daily clothes as pretended play costumes. When your children think, create, and solve problems on their own, they will gain more.
